“Business” as a term was something that always confused me growing up. I understood what a “businessman” or “businesswoman” was – someone who wore suits, carried briefcases and was generally pretty well dressed and rich, but what did they do? Business was offered as a course at school but it seemed a lot of maths. Spreadsheets, numbers and other boring things that didn’t involve feelings and expression! Now I’m older, though, it’s still a bit of a mystery.
Business can be a lot of things to a lot of different people. Shop owners might consider themselves business people, while those who stalk the streets of London looking smart with those briefcases can also claim to be doing “business.” It ranges from boardrooms to shop floors, from high rise buildings to one man working from home – business is everywhere, it’s hard to pin down but there are those out there that make it look easy, whatever it is.
