If you’re planning on starting up a side business, perhaps going freelance, you have to be ready for a slow start. Though some people are up and running in a relatively short time, the majority of people aren’t. It can take some time to build a successful business, especially if you’re working in full time employment, and your trying to pick up business outside of work at weekends.
This means that if you were to quit your job completely, without preparing as such for life as a freelancer, you won’t have any clients. You have to get yourself out there, and this will take some time, so prepare yourself for a dip in revenue. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a photographer, a writer or a website builder, you need to market yourselves, pick up clients and be relentless. You also have to force yourself to work extremely hard long days, but you may not reap any rewards for months.
